MIPTV in Cannes April 2010 the place to be this year #miptv

I’ve just seen the details for this year’s MIPTV to be held in Cannes April 12 – 16th.

From the conference agenda – where else would you find Shine Group’s Elisabeth Murdoch and Joanna Shields, News Corp’s Jonathan Miller, Sky’s Jeremy Darroch to name just a few in the same room.

MIP Digital kicks off with a by-invitation executive brainstorming huddle featuring 40 senior leaders from the highest ranks of digital entertainment.

Companies set to attend include YouTube, Hulu, Facebook, AOL, Channel 4, The Walt Disney Company, France Télévision Interactive, Paramount Digital Entertainment, Starz Media, ITV Marvel Entertainment and RTL Group, amongst others.

A pretty impressive list of people I am sure you would agree.

More information from the conference site…

MIPDIGITAL is the new name for the digital conferences, networking events and showcases; including Content 360 and the VIP Digital Summit.

The digital community at MIPTV is broadly made up of triple play and mobile operators (e.g. Vodafone, BT), major internet platforms (e.g.Facebook, YouTube, hulu), technology service and solution providers (Intel, Nokia, Microsoft) and the digital divisions of leading media networks (BBC, Warner Bros, MTV).

This digital part of the show is made up of: the Content 360 Festival, the Think Tank Conferences, the i-zone exhibits (level 01), International Digital Emmy Awards, VIP Digital Summit and targeted networking events.

Content 360: international pitching competition, screenings, and dedicated events.

Think Tank Conferences: the latest trends in digital and interactive media And also incorporating the Producers’ forum – conference and matchmaking between producers on the Monday of MIPTV.

i-zone: a specific exhibition, showcase and networking area within the main MIPTV show floor in level 01.

IDEA – The International Digital Emmy Awards – held at the opening cocktail in a VIP invite only area the awards recognise excellence in interactive programming created and designed for viewer participation and/or delivery on a digital platform.

VIP Summit: Monday networking event at the Carlton – invite only – max 50 top level digital leaders from broadcasting, studios, platforms, technologies and advertising.

Looks like a great event and I hope to be blogging from the event in April.

Its PR stunt, of course, aimed at getting brand visiability for Northampton University aligned to social media. But that makes it no less a serious topic.

I’m always surprised by the number of people at galleries or gigs, who rather than looking at art or chilling out and listening to the music, click-away tweeting and texting on their mobiles. Great that we share, but surely that erodes the original authentic experience?

In the past week or so I have been blogging about another Sigel Press Special Report on Techno Addicts (this time secondary school pupils) by the same authors.
    http://wishfulthinkinginmedicaleducation.blogspot.com/2009/09/tech-addiction-harms-learning-really.html
The science in the report was woeful.
Have you actually read the report you quote here? I wonder if it is a similar standard to the other but I do not particularly want to have to spend $24.99 more to find out.
The press release from Cranfield University contains the gem that this study “reveals that one in three people in the world admit to being addicted to technology”. Wonderful! They interviewed everyone in the world.

I wondered why any academic would put their name to work so poor but I guess that Stephen Waddington is right and that it is just a PR stunt. Why do the press respond so naively then?

The answer has to be yes. But it destroys the notion that all addictions are harmful I used to read boring books, watch crap TV and now I’m an social info junkie and happy with it. I’m also addicted to air, freshly baked bread, cooked breakfasts with black pudding, sex and sleep but nobody ever has a problem with those.
